Softonic review

A free program for Android, by Cameron Gutman.

This app enables users to share USB devices from an Android device to a PC via USB/IP. By running this server, users can share multiple USB devices from their Android device to a PC equipped with the appropriate USB/IP software. However, it's important to note that not all devices are supported, especially those using isochronous transfers like video and audio capture devices. For unsupported devices, users can reach out to the developer for assistance.

The app utilizes native Android USB host APIs, which eliminates the need for root access. Still, it may require some PC-side setup that could be complex for less experienced users. Once the USB/IP service is running, users can access connected devices from their PC using the usbip utility, and upon attaching to them, the USB permission dialog appears on the Android device for approval.

The app adheres to the USB/IP specification, listening for TCP connections on port 3240, and maintains partial wakelock and Wi-Fi lock to prevent sleep or disconnection while serving USB devices on the network. It is compatible with Linux's USB/IP driver and the current Windows USB/IP driver, with better performance reported on the Windows driver for mass storage and MTP. However, some USB input devices, like external mice and keyboards, might not be exposed by Android and thus cannot be shared. The app provides a list of tested devices, along with their compatibility status on different platforms.
